Science of Coffee - Ballito

29th May 2015

This morning I set off up the North Coast to visit a new coffee spot I’d heard of a while ago, Science of Coffee.

“Science of Coffee was born out of a passion for coffee and science”, says owner Alessandro Craparo, an incredibly well educated man on the topic of coffee. With a PHD in this field of study Alessandro has done extensive research into coffee farming and production. His valuable experience has served many a coffee farmer in the regions of Ethiopia, Tanzania, Uganda and Brazil.

Science of Coffee can be found in Palm Lakes Estate, just North of Ballito. You can take the Tinley Manor off-ramp and it is just left off the highway. Their set up is humble and effective for their clientele. Made out of containers this coffee shop is not your ordinary coffee hangout but let me tell you the coffee is DELICIOUS. Here are some pictures from my morning at Science of Coffee.

Their beautiful Genio Roaster has them up at 4am daily, roasting coffee. The Palm Lakes residence most definitely have the best smell to wake up to. Science of Coffee roast coffee beans from Ethiopia, Uganda, Guatemala, Cameroon and Sumatra. Have a look into each coffee here. Their menu is espresso based coffee drinks mainly, and one can buy equipment like the AeroPress and Moka Pot from their shop. They have beautifully buttery croissants and Belgian waffles as a side treat too.

Alessandro imports most of his coffee beans himself. As I said, he has a great relationships with the farmers. Their coffee shop is kitted out with a La Marzocca coffee machine and a Mahlkonig grinder. Another notch in the belt of expertise.

If you are in the North Coast region I highly recommend you visit Science of Coffee. The location is peaceful and the company is friendly. You will feel welcomed and served coffee of the highest regard, full of flavour, and so enjoyable to drink.

Hi Craig. Thanks for getting in touch, however I am not the owner of Science of Coffee. You will need to contact Sandro directly. All the best.
